Why I’m standing
Laycock is a strong and diverse community, but many residents tell me they feel overlooked or unheard. Through my work as a secondary headteacher, Chair of Governors at an Islington primary, a member of the Islington Schools Forum, and as a churchwarden, trustee and PCC member, I’ve seen how much practical, consistent action can change things for local families.
I bring calm, practical leadership and a track record of bringing people together and getting things sorted. I’m standing as an Independent candidate to bring that same approach to the council — listening carefully, following things through, and focusing on what matters here, not on national party debates.
Being Independent means I’m not tied to any party line or national agenda. My focus is entirely on Laycock — listening to residents, dealing with issues quickly, and working with whoever can help get things done.
Residents tell me they want a councillor who is present, practical and accountable. As an Independent, I can speak up for local concerns without being influenced by party politics, and I can work constructively with all councillors to get results for our community.
What I’ll focus on for Laycock
Clear, practical commitments shaped by what residents tell me matters most.
My commitment to you
Regular surgeries, estate walkabouts, and clear communication so you always know what’s happening and how to reach me.
Decisions based solely on what benefits Laycock — free from party instructions or national political debates.
Local experience and community work
I’ve spent years working with local families, schools and community groups. That experience means I’m used to reading complex documents, asking difficult questions and making sure systems work for the people they’re meant to serve.
- Former secondary headteacher – experienced in safeguarding, budgets, staff leadership and fixing systems that aren’t working.
- Chair of Governors – leading work on safeguarding, inclusion, curriculum and long‑term school strategy.
- Member of the Islington Schools Forum – scrutinising funding decisions and their impact on local schools.
- Churchwarden, trustee and PCC member – supporting families, volunteers and community activities.
As a councillor, I would bring the same focus on detail, fairness and follow‑through to Laycock Ward.
